A new tournament approach!
Cash out any time
As one of the top notch online poker sites, Full Tilt Poker is always trying new things and their new Cash-out tournaments are something never seen before. What in the world is a Cash-out tournament? It is a cash buy-in tournament where you can actually cash out some or all of your chips prior to the end of the tournament. Sounds pretty strange doesn’t it? While it may be an odd concept for a tournament, it definitely could have advantages.
Cashout Tournaments follow the same general rules as standard tournaments, but the catch is that each buy-in is split, with equal halves going into a regular tournament prize pool and a special Cashout pool. That means players still play for their share of the tournament prize pool, but they also have the option of cashing out chips before the tournament has ended.
Here is how it works. Say you decide to cash out, the cashout amount you choose will be taken from the Cashout pool with the value based on your starting chip amount and the tournament buy-in amount. For example, let’s say you are in a Cashout Tournament with a $40 + $4 buy-in. Half of the buy-in ($20) is in the tournament prize pool and the other $20 is in the Cashout pool. If your starting stack was 1,500 in chips, this makes 1,500 chips worth $20. So during the tournament, you could opt to make partial Cashouts in 10% increments of your original stack size. In this spot, you cash out as little as 150 chips, which is 10% of the starting stack of 1,500 and the value for the 150 chips would be $2. But if you double your stack to 3,000 chips, you could cash out 1,500 chips and the value for 1,500 chips would be $20 and you would have your buy-in back. And if you ran your chips up to 5,000 and wanted to cash out 3,000 chips, you would get $40 which would double your buy-in, making you a quick $20 profit (not counting the $4 tournament fee).
This brings a whole new wrinkle to tournament play. How many times have you amassed chips only to see them dwindle when you have fallen into the ‘card dead’ zone? Well if you were in a Cashout tourney, you could cash them out and still make money!
The cashout option is only available before the final table is set, so the deeper you go in a Cashout tournament, the tougher your decision to cashout or not may become. And remember, if you make a full cashout, you are eliminated from the tournament, which means if you completely cashout in 42nd place, then that is the spot you will have placed and finished in. If you cashout and are in the money, you will get whatever money you won for finishing in that spot from the regular prize pool too, so it really could be a win-win situation if you play it right.
So check-out the cool new Cashout tournaments on Full Tilt Poker, you won’t find anything like them anywhere else! And if you don't have an account, sign up to one through our link at PokerEdge.
