By now everyone in the world has heard about the total devastation caused by the 7.0 earthquake that virtually leveled the Haitian Capitol of Port-de-Prince. With over 200,000 feared dead and countless thousands homeless and starving, the tiny impoverished Caribbean nation is in desperate need of aid and PokerStars, like many other poker players and online poker sites are stepping in to lend a hand.

By opening your poker account and your heart, you can help make a difference in Haiti, where desperate people need so much help rebuilding their lives. PokerStars wants to make it very easy for you to do your part and contribute whatever you can to the Haiti Earthquake Relief fund, plus for every dollar you donate, PokerStars will match it, so whatever you can give, your contribution will be doubled!

You can be the bearer of hope to the people of Haiti when you make your contribution by logging in to the PokerStars lobby, then going to the ‘Tourney’ tab and selecting ‘Special.’ This is where you will register for one of the dummy 'Haiti Earthquake Relief' tournaments listed, with buy-ins from $1 up to $1,000. These dummy tournaments are not actual tournament events, but rather a simple way for you to donate because every dollar of entry fees will go directly to the Haitian Earthquake Relief Fund.

Another way you can contribute is to do a player to player transfer. To do this, look at the top menu in the PokerStars lobby for 'Requests,' then select 'Transfer Funds' and put 'Haiti Fund’ in the box where you enter a player ID.

Either way you choose to lend a hand, make sure you do it by January 31st because after that, it will be time for PokerStars to tally the donations, match them dollar for dollar and send them off to the Red Cross.

And if you don’t think poker players have a heart, think again, because in the few short days since PokerStars launched their Haiti donations appeal, PokerStars players have generously given close to $475,000 to the cause.

For many of us sitting in our warm homes, eating a good meal and playing poker online, it is hard to imagine being without the simple life sustaining necessities like water or food.
